CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), provide support to research teams, through collation, assessment and management of quantitative health data from a variety of sources. This is a single-class series.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide support to research teams, through data seeking, sourcing, and data management in order to identify, describe and organize data to meet analytical goals and processes.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, independently support research teams through data seeking, data quality management and data management support.

TYPICAL WORK

Work with researchers and staff to identify and manage health data sources appropriate to the needs of the research team;

Serve as a resource for others in seeking, understanding, and explaining the characteristics of data from a multitude of sources that are used in different research areas;

Independently seek data to fill gaps in data sets and/or novel data needs from internal and external partners;

Respond to specific data requests form research teams;

Scope data requirements and priorities;

Archive, catalogue and annotate data sets according to established standards; document data sources, dimensions, and metadata;

Maintain proper protocols for data management and tracking;

Conduct background research for data sources, research-specific needs, and data access;

Conduct research for metadata for datasets, including publishers, authors, and contributing and funding organizations

Build positive working relationships with internal and external partners to ensure the ability to attain and catalogue data according to established standards;

Work with other team members to assist with relevant tasks, facilitate learning new skills, and to help resolve emerging problems on different projects; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in library science, information management, or (science) data management and two years of related experience

OR

equivalent combination of education/experience.
