CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Produce multimedia content for KUOW podcasts. This is the second level in a two-level series; the preceding level is Producer 2 – Podcast.

BASIC FUNCTION

Assist in managing the editorial process. Produce and sound design podcast episodes.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under the supervision of the Senior Editor, coach and direct the production team to deliver sound-rich narrative podcast episodes. Conceptualize and assist the Senior Editor in planning long-term and special coverage. Develop pitches and research topics.

Host content for broadcast as assigned. Oversee the sound design of episodes including audio mixes and selection and commissioning of music and other sound elements. May develop and write online posts and broadcast spots of program content.

TYPICAL WORK

Typical working titles are “Producer”, “Podcast Producer” or “Producer 3 – Podcast”;

Coach and direct production team to deliver sound-rich narrative podcast episodes;

Conceptualize and assist Editor in planning long-term and special coverage;

Develop pitches and research topics;

Responsible for the sound design of episodes, including audio mixes, and selection and commissioning of music and other sound elements.

Pre-interview and book guests, provide hosts with background research;

Gather sound, conduct interviews in the field as assigned;

May develop and write online posts and broadcast spots of program content;

As assigned, perform the duties of a Producer 2 – Podcast, including:

Work with Senior Editor and host to develop ideas for podcast series;
Pre-interview guests and provides host with background research;
Write host introductions and interview questions;
Oversee studio recording sessions;
Mix audio pieces and prepare podcasts for publishing;
Gather sound, conduct interviews in the field as assigned; and
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional broadcast journalism experience of increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.
