CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Produce local news segments for KUOW’s daily news. Produces multimedia content for KUOW radio programming including broadcast audio, web content, video, podcasts and events. This is a single-class series.
BASIC FUNCTION
Produce local news segments for KUOW’s daily news.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under the supervision of an Editor, produce local news segments for KUOW’s daily news by tracking news, researching topics and pitching segment ideas based on KUOW editorial priorities.
Provide backup production work for talk shows or other programs as assigned.
May produce spot news content (online posts and broadcast spots) or do field recording or arrange for field recording of lectures or other off-site content. May train part-time production assistants.
TYPICAL WORK
Typical working titles are “News Producer” or “Producer 2 – News”;
Track news, research topics and pitch segment ideas based on KUOW editorial priorities;
Provide backup production work for talk shows or other programs as assigned;
May produce spot news content (online posts and broadcast spots);
May do field recording or arrange for field recording of lectures or other off-site content;
May perform occasional on-air work including emergency board operation, and fundraising as assigned; and
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional broadcast journalism experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.
