CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Assess, plan and implement therapeutic recreation services.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide therapeutic recreation services to patients as referred by a physician. Perform assessments; plan and implement recreational therapy program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, assess patient needs, plan and implement therapeutic recreation programs.

TYPICAL WORK

Assess patients; plan and implement therapeutic recreation plan of care to meet individual patient needs;

Organize and lead therapeutic recreational activities both in and outside the hospital environment;

Confer with the interdisciplinary team, individual patients, and family members to develop patients’ therapeutic recreational plan;

Develop and maintain contact with appropriate community resources;

Maintain statistical information and documentation related to patient care;

Operate state motor vehicles to transport patients on community outings;

Direct therapeutic recreation volunteers and instruct students within assigned area;

Assist in securing resources and equipment for assigned area;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program

OR
equivalent education/experience.
