DEFINITION
Under guidance of the Vocational Director manage a rehabilitation counselling and placement program including responsibility for teaching, research and supervision of other professional personnel.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are distinguished by the responsibility for program organization and administration. Supervision of other professional personnel in the vocational rehabilitation program is normally a responsibility of this position.
TYPICAL WORK
Participate in the instruction of students regarding the goals and extent of the vocational rehabilitation program;
Assist in research oriented toward evaluating the effectiveness of various rehabilitation programs and procedures leading to the development of new or improved programs;
Supervise the activities of other professional and nonprofessional personnel assigned to the program;
Counsel the disabled; administer and interpret intelligence, aptitude, and vocational interest tests as needed;
Act as resource person to other program personnel for the selection of test instruments;
Maintain an effective and continuing liaison with public and private rehabilitation and vocational training agencies;
Contact hospitals, Academic departments, and outside agencies to arrange difficult or unusual placements;
Develop and maintain sources of vocational training and test placement opportunities;
Supervise the maintenance of a complete and current occupational information library for patient and program use;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in psychology or rehabilitation counselling AND one year of post-Master’s Degree experience in vocational counselling, OR B.A. Degree with three years experience in professional placement and counselling work with at least one year in a medical setting.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
