BASIC FUNCTION

Perform physical therapy treatments to patients with complex medical problems, assist the physical therapist with tests and measurements, assist in the clinical education activities of the physical therapy department.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, provide physical therapy treatment to patients with complex problems such as burns or behavioral deficiencies; assist in instructing and evaluating students.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform all duties of Physical Therapist Assistant I; provide treatments to patients with more complex problems such as burns, severe behavioral deficient patients or intensive care unit patients;

Provide required physical therapy services in clinics;

Participate in selected instruction and evaluation of students;

Assist in developing training programs for physical therapy students;

Culture whirlpool tanks; maintain necessary supplies and equipment in hydrotherapy;

Orient new physical therapist assistants, aides, and student helper;

Orient, instruct, and assign work to volunteers;

Participate in clinical education meetings with schools providing physical therapy curricula;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union

An Associate of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program that includes patient treatment affiliation. Eighteen months of experience as Physical Therapist Assistant I, or equivalent. Physical ability to move patients and equipment.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
