Patient Representative Supervisor

DEFINITION

Direct the operation of the Patient Representative program for a hospital.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Incumbents supervise all patient representative personnel and manage the overall Patient Representative program.

TYPICAL WORK

Supervise the work of patient relations staff to include hiring, training and orientation and evaluation; recommend disciplinary action;

Research and prepare budget for the Patient Representative program;

Develop goals and objectives as well as working procedures for the program;

Serve as the overall management liaison between the program and other departments, identifying potential problem areas and facilitating the resolution of complaints with high degree of operational impact;

Represent the department on a variety of Administrative and Management Committees;

Responsible for receiving, acknowledging and disbursing procedures for contributions to the Patient Care Fund;

Develop follow-up systems to ensure corrective action is communicated and implemented;

Collect data and prepare reports concerning patient and institutional-related problems and recommend appropriate changes in hospital policies;

Serve on various hospital planning committees and task forces; assist in overall planning;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union

Bachelor’s Degree in a health care or related field; AND three years health administrative experience involving responsibility and exposure to administrative, professional and patient contact.

An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may substitute for the degree requirement.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
