CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Process and resolve patient accounts receivable.

BASIC FUNCTION

As a working lead, lead Patient Account Representatives and perform the work of a Patient Account Representative.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, regularly assign, instruct and check the work of Patient Account Representatives, train and orient staff, provide feedback on employee performance, and identify and resolve problems.

TYPICAL WORK

Participate in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees to the department;

Provide feedback to supervisor for employee performance evaluations, corrective action plans and training plans;

Review work and provide instruction to improve efficiencies and accuracy in account resolution and to ensure compliance with established procedures;

Schedule coverage as needed;

Liaise with payers and UW Medicine entities to resolve complicated billing issues;

Answer questions from staff; identify and resolve problems or unusual situations; recommend changes as necessary;

Monitor and evaluate policies and procedures to suggest operational changes;

Participate in and/or lead special project work;

Maintain confidentiality of information, including protected health information (PHI);

Participate in and attend meetings and training as required;

Perform the work of Patient Account Representatives;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service, or a related office environment

OR

Equivalent education/experience.

Classification series encompasses the work formerly performed by Patient Financial Services Specialist 1 (18081), Patient Financial Services Specialist 2 (18082), and Patient Financial Services Supervisor (18083). The Patient Financial Services series was inactivated at the effective date of the Patient Account Representative series.
