Oral Maxillo Facial Surgery Technician

BASIC FUNCTIONS
Perform pre-surgery maxillo facial laboratory duties; construct patient oral devices as prescribed; coordinate and assist with osseointegration patient care; assist in major oral surgery procedures.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Single class – no series. Under general direction, perform specialized skills in oral maxillo facial surgery; design and create patient-prescribed oral prosthetic devices and precision mouth impression models.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform complex dental maxillo facial laboratory duties which include precision study casts, bite registration, face-bow transfer record, and full and partial facial moulage, to design the precision oral impression model;
Operate a medical camera to photograph oral maxillo facial anatomy, standard orthodontic views, and surgical techniques;
Complete extraoral radiographs, such as cephalogram series and panorex; assess for technical accuracy;
Fabricate patient-prescribed oral prosthetic devices, such as soft splints and physical therapy jaw exercisers;
Assist in the major oral surgery procedures conducted in hospital board-approved operating room;
Monitor and record vital signs from electronic equipment on oral surgery patients;
Prepare IV sedation set-ups for medically-compromised oral surgery patients; assist in venipuncture; adjust and maintain the intravenous infusions;
Prepare and maintain critical sterile, fluoride salt-free instruments, and tray packs for osseointegration surgeries;
Direct staff in preparation of and during osseointegration surgeries;
Schedule patient appointments for major oral surgery and coordinate patient care with related departments as needed, such as radiology, oncology, dietary, admitting, and anesthesiology;
Initiate and maintain patient research records; submit data to international program for evaluation;
Revise Swedish osseointegration manuals as needed;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union
High school graduation and four (4) years of experience as a dental/medical assistant, or equivalent, in a hospital setting, including two (2) years of experience assisting in oral surgery; AND certification of eligibility for certification within four (4) months after date of hire as a Certified Dental Assistant with the American Dental Association.
