Ophthalmic Technician Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION
Provide leadership for specific clinic services and programs; coordinate daily operations and supervise Ophthalmic Technicians and other assigned staff.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary action. Assist with budget planning and coordinate staff education activities.
Under general direction, exercise advanced technical knowledge ophthalmology and patient care.
TYPICAL WORK
Coordinate the daily operations, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action;
Oversee the triage process, monitor patient flow, and staffing levels; evaluate data to optimize clinic operations;
Develop training programs for technicians and students; demonstrate specific techniques and equipment;
Coordinate patient education and patient education materials;
Maintain quality control of division services and equipment; recommend changes and/or improvements to enhance operations;
Approve requests for supplies; test and recommend new products; recommend purchase or lease of equipment; maintain inventory control of equipment and supplies;
Assist with orientation of new staff, residents and float pool;
Implement and evaluate orientation programs, provide on-going staff education;
Coordinate maintenance of equipment; evaluate equipment for effectiveness;
May perform the work of the Ophthalmic Technicians;
Work with Residency Coordinator to ensure Resident Coverage;
Monitory inventory and order supplies;
Work closely with other staff to ensure smooth, daily clinic operations;
Schedule and lead staff in-services and meetings;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
Completion of an ophthalmic or orthoptic technician program AND five years of ophthalmic experience AND certification appropriate for the clinical specialty; Certified Ophthalmic Tech
OR
equivalent education/experience.
