BASIC FUNCTION
Provide occupational therapy services under the direction of an occupational therapist to assigned patients with complex diagnoses such as spinal cord injury, closed head injury, acute psychotic episodes, and/or multiple trauma; assist occupational therapist with evaluations and treatment planning.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, provide occupational therapy treatment to patients with complex problems in the areas of daily living, sensory motor, cognitive and psychosocial skills; instruct and evaluate students and volunteers.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform treatment for patients with complex problems and encourage patients’ independence in activities of daily living.
Fabricate and adapt complex orthotic assistive equipment as directed;
Provide required occupational therapy service in clinics and speciality units;
Assist in evaluation and assessment of patient’s potential to return to independent living by conducting visits to home and work site with an occupational therapist;
Inventory and order supplies;
Orient and instruct new occupational therapy assistants, students, student helpers, and volunteers; assign work to volunteers;
Participate in clinical program development and quality assurance projects;
Participate in clinical education meetings with schools providing occupational therapy curricula;
Perform the duties of Occupational Therapy Assistant I;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union
Graduate of an approved educational program for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants AND successful completion of the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Occupational Therapy Assistant certification examination AND current Washington State license, or license eligible to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant AND 18 months experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant I or equivalent.
Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
