CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Provide mental health diagnostic evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and case management services in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting, and consultation and education to other mental health and health care professionals.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide treatment, participate in data collection and research, and perform case management functions for a clinical specialty area such as geriatrics, substance use disorder, psychotherapy, suicidality, and unique treatment modalities as required by the program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, provide specialized, mental health treatment services in a clinical specialty area through specialized certifications and interventions supported by the department.

Provide subject matter expertise in a clinical specialty area through teaching and consultation to outside agencies, students, Mental Health Practitioners and other staff.

TYPICAL WORK

Provide specialized mental health treatment services in a clinical specialty area;

Provide mentorship, training and consultation to Mental Health Practitioners, students and other staff in clinical specialty area;

In the specialty area, assist in the development and the delivery of training programs;

May represent the specialty area in community forums and professional committee work;

Perform Mental Health Practitioner duties;

May provide direction to volunteers or students; and

Perform related duties as required.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT(S)

Licensed by the State of Washington as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Counselor, or Mental Health Counselor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work

AND

Two years as a Mental Health Practitioner or equivalent, one of which must be in a clinical specialty area. Eligibility for recognition by the State of Washington as a clinical specialist, under the community mental health regulations may be required. May be required to be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment and/or allied health credentialing.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/ certification/registration.
