BASIC FUNCTION

Lead and work with locksmiths employing journey skills in the repair, installation, and construction of locking devices and keys.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are distinguished by the responsibility to lead qualified locksmiths on a project or at a job location, to instruct other workers, to correct and specify methods, and to perform work in the repair, installation, and construction of locking devices and keys.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform all duties of a locksmith;

Lead assigned personnel in the performance of work;

Assure adherence to safety rules, regulations, and precautions by assigned personnel;

Develop preliminary cost estimates for installation and repair of locking devices and equipment as required;

Develop methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel;

May perform work in other trades;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year, full-time experience as a journey locksmith or equivalent trade skill. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Examination Requirements:

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
