BASIC FUNCTION

Lead the work of Licensed Practical Nurses and others in the clinical operation of a patient care setting. Perform practical nursing care including the administration of medication; assist in carrying out selected aspects of the designated nursing regimen. Within the scope of licensed practice, perform practical nursing care tasks, participate in patient care planning, assist with and perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, report and record observations of patients, assist in maintaining an optimum physical and emotional environment, and assist a registered nurse in more complex situations.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Assist in the hiring of staff; provide feedback for performance evaluations; participate in the training and orienting of staff; identify and help resolve staff and operational issues.

TYPICAL WORK

Lead the work of Licensed Practical Nurses and others;

Schedule and assign Licensed Practical Nurses and others to ensure appropriate staffing;

Train Licensed Practical Nurses and others; serve as a resource to other clinical staff, maintain training and orientation material for Licensed Practical Nurses and others;

Participate in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees; provide information to supervisor for hiring decisions and employee performance evaluations;

Monitor and evaluate policies and procedures to suggest operational changes;

Participate in conferences and meetings, represent the work unit on organizational initiatives;

Perform the work of a Licensed Practical Nurse

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED equivalent AND one year of experience as a Licensed Practice Nurse AND current license to practice as a practical nurse in the State of Washington.
