Hospital Assistant Lead

BASIC FUNCTION

Lead and provide information to Hospital Assistants and volunteers; perform routine tasks in direct and indirect patient care, transportation, and maintenance of a patient care area such as assisting patients with daily living activities; preparing patients for surgery; performing non-invasive lab procedures, transporting patients, equipment and supplies; assisting with treatments, and conducting various clerical tasks.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Assist in carrying out the services of the unit by serving as a contact for other patient care providers, resolving problems, collecting and analyzing quality control data, and developing and presenting inservices to Hospital Assistants.

TYPICAL WORK

Develop and implement the daily staffing schedule;

Serve as point of contact to other patient care providers;

Assist technologists and other staff in resolving problems concerning equipment functioning, staff coverage, and interpretation of policies & procedures;

Provide input to supervisors on performance of Hospital Assistants;

Collect and analyze data for use in quality control functions;

Serve as information resource to Hospital Assistants in such areas as automated information systems, supply delivery schedules, and equipment assembly;

Develop and present inservices to Hospital Assistant staff;

Perform the work of Hospital Assistants;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified

High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of hospital assistant experience in an acute hospital setting

OR

equivalent education/experience.
