DEFINITION

Receive and dispense supplies and equipment in a dental clinic dispensary. Schedule unit assignments for dental students fulfilling curriculum requirements.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

These positions perform clerical functions in a dental clinic dispensary serving dental students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Both Dispensary Assistant I and II work under minimal supervision.

Positions at the “”II”” level have total responsibility throughout the dental clinics for a specialized function such as issuing gold for use in patient treatment.

TYPICAL WORK

Order and dispense medicaments, equipment and instruments for a dental clinic;

Record maintain inventory files for all supplies;

Record data charge slips submitted by dental students on a daily basis, and make out sub-cashier deposit slips to be sent to a centralized financial office;

Dispense prescription drugs to patients by order of instructor, and keep accurate records of such transactions;

Schedule unit assignments for dental students taking into consideration students’ curriculum plan and number of clinic units available; must respond to special student and faculty scheduling problems;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union

High School graduation or GED; AND one year of clerical experience in medical/dental setting. Medical/technical post-secondary education may substitute for up to six months of required experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Examination Requirements

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
