DEFINITION

Perform semi-skilled work of graduated complexity pertinent to the control technician class under “training” in the college or university’s building maintenance and alterations program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are distinguished by assignment as a trainee for the control technician class receiving on-the-job and academic training to achieve journey-worker status.

TYPICAL WORK

Under guidance of a journey-worker, perform various maintenance and alteration duties, with special emphasis on those duties required to complete the specific on-the-job control technician training program;

Obtain, prepare and deliver materials to the job site and assist in assembly and installation;

Clean up and maintain shop areas, work sites and storage areas;

Complete on-the-job control technician training program requirements;

Complete related academic training which will consist of designated trades school and/or correspondence courses as available and applicable to the control technician class;

Perform related duties and functions as specified in approved training program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified

High School graduation or equivalent; OR six months’ experience as a maintenance aide, or equivalent. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Examination Requirements:

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
