BASIC FUNCTION

Provide laboratory information regarding department policies and testing services, perform administrative functions in support of laboratory services and perform semi-technical lab support.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, utilize laboratory knowledge and independent judgment to provide laboratory information regarding department and send out lab testing procedures, policies, and other department activities to staff and internal and external organizations.

TYPICAL WORK

Serve as a liaison on behalf of the department to staff, management, clients, and external organizations to explain laboratory guidelines, technical information, and testing methodologies;

Review testing orders, patient records, and specimen samples for completeness, accuracy, and compliance;

Respond to clients’ issues and provide laboratory testing information or recommend alternative courses of action as it relates to the department’s test menu;

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve errors logs to ensure all tests are accurately reported; escalate result interface resolution to appropriate division;

Monitor pending logs and resolve issues with outstanding orders or missing patient information or specimen with laboratory staff;

Review and reconcile testing or billing reports from the laboratory information systems;

Identify and communicate errors in reports to laboratory management;

Perform work related to special projects which contribute to the development of new processes and procedures in the laboratory;

Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Technician I; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience

OR

equivalent education/experience.
