DEFINITION

Under specific direction, operate, monitor, repair, and modify television and radio equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class perform basic and routine technical duties related to television and radio facilities and/or broadcasting/distribution systems. Positions receive close supervision or follow specific and established procedures.

TYPICAL WORK

Adjust television cameras and maintain picture quality;

Set up, align, and check video and audio equipment used for production of radio and television programs;

Assist higher-level technicians in the operation of radio and television broadcasting transmitters, video-tape systems, and master control panels;

Check films, video and audio-tapes, and slides against program and production schedules; operate audio and projection equipment and recorders in accordance with schedules;

Adjust and repair equipment and perform routine maintenance; construct and modify radio and television electronic equipment under direction of higher-level technicians;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union

High School, technical, or vocational school graduate, or GED Certificate; AND one year of full-time experience/training in electronics equipment operation and maintenance. First class radio-telephone operator license may be required.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Examination Requirements:

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
