UW employees must stay home if they are sick in order to protect themselves, their coworkers, and the broader community.

This page summarizes the time off options for various scenarios related to COVID-19. Eligibility varies, so please consult your human resources consultant with questions.

COVID-related time off information for Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) eligible employees

The following time off options may be available to FFCRA eligible employees for COVID-19 related reasons based on University, state, and federal efforts to support employees.

Is self-isolating based on COVID-like symptoms for at least 72 hours or caring for a family member who is self-isolating for 72 hours.
Meets CDC guidelines for 14-day quarantine.
Is caring for a family member who meets criteria for 14-day quarantine.
Is sick with known close contact or exposure to COVID-19 during the course of work.
Is sick due to contact with COVID-19 outside the course of work.
Is taking care of a family member who tested positive for COVID-19.
Is worried about coming to work.
Has an underlying health condition, is pregnant, or is over 65.
Only 8 hours to maintain benefits if other paid time off is exhausted.

Is absent due to a closure of their child’s school, camp, facility and/or unexpected absence of a care provider.
*Can be used during EPSL or EFMLA to “top-up” to 100% of wages for certain populations.
Up to 3 days of each of their paid time off balances and 1 day of PH.

COVID-related time off information for employees ineligible for FFCRA

As part of the institutional response to COVID-19 and under state and federal efforts to support employees, the following time off options may be available to employees for COVID-19-related reasons.

I am a FFCRA ineligible employee who is unable to work remotely and… Sick time off (or NWH Carryover) Other accrued paid time off Shared leave No Loss of Pay Leave
Is sick and cannot work due to experiencing symptoms outlined on the UW Medicine Attestation form. Either is not eligible for testing or tests negative for COVID-19.
Is sick with COVID-19 due to contact with COVID in the community.
Is a medical center employee and is sick with COVID-19 after confirmed direct or indirect contact with COVID-19 at work.
Is taking care of a family member who tested positive for COVID-19.
Has an underlying health condition, is pregnant, or is over 65.
Only 8 hours to maintain benefits if other paid time off is exhausted.
Is absent due to a closure of their child’s school, camp, facility and/or unexpected absence of a care provider.
Up to 3 days of each of their paid time off balances and 1 day of PH.
