Every October, something wonderful happens across our campus. Faculty, staff and retirees open their hearts and get ready to make workplace giving season the best it can be. It is time again for the UW Combined Fund Drive.
Since 1984, the UWCFD has connected UW employees and retirees to the causes they care about most, adding up to nearly $60 million making its way into the world. Whatever moves you, chances are there is a nonprofit in our campaign ready to put your gift to work. Giving through the CFD is entirely yours to shape. You choose the organization and the amount. It is your giving, your way.
This year we are especially proud to spotlight the American Cancer Society as our featured nonprofit. Their mission is simple to say and enormous in scope: end cancer as we know it, for everyone. What makes this partnership so meaningful is how close to home it hits. ACS is currently funding $4.9 million in research grants right here at UW, and over the past 78 years that relationship has grown into a total of $50.43 million invested, spanning 460 grants and 353 researchers across UW, Fred Hutch and Seattle Children’s.
So when you give this year, you are not just supporting a cause. You are supporting the researcher down the hall, the survivor in your department and the discoveries happening on our own campus. That is a pretty compelling reason to give. The power of our collective giving is transformational.
Our campaign kicks off October 13 and we would love for you to be part of it from day one.
