UW Management Fundamentals

UW Human Resources offers this suite of free classes to enhance the success of managers at the UW.
UW Management Fundamentals classes empower supervisors and other organizational leaders with best practices, policy information and strategies for hiring and managing employees at the UW.
Spring 2026 offerings
MARCH/APRIL
- Learning to Lead: March 31 & April 2, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (online via Zoom)
- Managing Employee Performance: April 14 & April 16, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (online via Zoom)
- Tactical Leadership: April 21 & April 23, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (online via Zoom)
MAY
- Learning to Lead: May 5, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (in person at Gateway)
- Implementing Equitable Hiring Practices: May 12 & May 13, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (online via Zoom)
- Managing Employee Performance: May 14, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (in person at Gateway)
- Tactical Leadership: May 21, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (in person at Gateway)
JUNE
- Learning to Lead: June 2 & June 4, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (online via Zoom)
- Tactical Leadership: June 16 & June 18, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (online via Zoom)
Series design
The concepts in many of the UW Management Fundamentals classes are designed to build upon each other. For a superior learning experience, POD advises taking the following classes in this order, if possible:
- Learning to Lead (Q0200)
- Managing Employee Performance (Q0570)
- Tactical Leadership (Q1860)
- Managing Corrective Action at UW (Q0070)
Other UW Management Fundamentals classes may be taken on an as-needed basis:
- Employment Law and UW Policies (Q0350)
- Implementing Equitable Hiring Practices (Q0140)
Funding these classes aligns with UWHR’s strategic focus to develop programs that are both inclusive and equitable and that enhance manager expertise; in addition, these classes help address 2020 Campus Climate Survey responses indicating a strong need for additional training for supervisors.
