CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
The UW Medicine Payroll Services department provides centralized support for HR and payroll inquiries and transactions within UW Medicine. Positions in this class series provide specialized payroll transactional services.
BASIC FUNCTION
The UW Medicine Payroll Specialist Supervisor will serve as a member of a team dedicated to executing payroll transactional functions.
Supervise UW Medicine Payroll Specialists and other support staff.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.
TYPICAL WORK
Supervise staff performing a wide variety of payroll transactional processes, including:
- Payroll Inputs
- Time Entry/Corrections
- Absence Entry/Corrections
- Overpayments (including reporting and coordination with employees and the Integrated Service Center (ISC))
- Retroactive Payments
- Payment Adjustments
- Final Payments
Assist with development and implementation of systems and processes to evaluate and report on departmental or organizational unit key performance indicators;
Assist in developing the department or organizational unit’s annual budget, metrics, goals, and objectives for the staff or work unit;
Identify process improvement opportunities to deliver enhanced customer services to the organization;
Ensure timely resolution of complex issues/inquiries;
Coordinate with ISC resources to address escalated inquiries as required;
Complete special projects as assigned;
Perform the duties of a UW Medicine Payroll Specialist;
Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, economics, or related field
AND
Three years of experience working in a payroll related role requiring working knowledge of key payroll transactional processes, accounting standards and taxation requirements, and also including two years of working experience processing payroll transactions.
OR
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
