CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Perform layout, fabrication, and painting of signs for exterior or interior use.
BASIC FUNCTION
Perform journey-level work in the layout, fabrication, and painting of signs for exterior or interior use.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
First level class of series. Under general supervision, perform journey-level sign painting.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform hand lettering on signs, posters, show cards, doors, and glass;
Layout and cut stencils for lettering and numbering;
Prepare and use pounce paper patterns;
Apply gold, silver, or bronze leaf to surfaces;
Paint and letter numerals and symbols and background pictures for lettering;
Construct signs using materials such as "Scotch lite", "Scotch cal", and other adhesives; utilize silk screen process to prepare signs;
Mix paints as required and care for tools and equipment;
May operate motor vehicle and transport materials;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
Three years of experience/training in the sign painting trade. May require a valid State of Washington driver's license.
