BASIC FUNCTION
Lead and work with motorized equipment mechanics in repair and service of automobiles, motorized farm equipment, and heavy construction or related equipment. Full responsibility for a small automotive repair shop and/or motor pool may be substituted for responsibility of leading journey motorized equipment mechanics.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Lead assigned motorized equipment mechanics in performance of journey-level work in the repair and service of automobiles, motorized farm equipment, and heavy construction or related equipment such as power generators, hydraulic systems and diesel engines, or have full responsibility for a small automotive repair shop and/or motor pool.
TYPICAL WORK
Evaluate automotive equipment repair requirements; estimate repair costs;
Keep automotive records; purchase parts and supplies; schedule all vehicles for servicing; obtain estimate for damaged automobiles; perform body and fender repair;
Write repair orders, assign work and verify work; record time and parts used on jobs;
Perform the duties of Motorized Equipment Mechanic;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
One year of full-time experience as a journey motorized equipment mechanic, or equivalent trade skill.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
