DEFINITION
Lead journey elevator mechanics and perform skilled work on (vertical transportation equipment) elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, hoists, and moving walks.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are distinguished by responsibility to assign and lead work at the job site, relating to the maintenance and repair of (vertical transportation equipment) elevators, hook lifts, overhead movable cranes and hoists, etc.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform all duties of an elevator mechanic;
Lead assigned personnel in the performance of work;
Assure adherence to safety rules and precautions by assigned personnel;
Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs;
Develop methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel;
Perform alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment;
May perform work in other trades;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
One-year, full-time experience as a journey elevator mechanic, or equivalent trade skill. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Examination Requirements:
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
