MENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER

CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Provide mental health diagnostic evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and case management services in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting, and consultation and education to other mental health and health care professionals.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide prescribed treatment, maintain case records, participate in data collection and research, and perform case management functions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

First-level class of series. Under general supervision, provide prescribed mental health services in an outpatient setting.

TYPICAL WORK

Provide psycho-therapy as prescribed by the individual service plan;

Maintain case records;

Provide case management, client advocacy, outreach and/or follow-up contacts to clients in the community;

Assist in monitoring the effect of medications under the general direction of a physician;

Conduct screening, triage, and referral services;

Participate in data collection, studies, and research projects;

Perform crisis intervention;

Assist in the training of students and directing the work of volunteers;

Provide diagnostic evaluation and develop individual service and discharge plans;

Conduct 90-day case reviews and revise individual service plans;

May provide consultation and education to other social service and health care workers;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

A Master's Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor's Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years' of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
