CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Maintain and repair buildings, campus grounds and utility systems.

BASIC FUNCTION

Perform manual labor and equipment operation involved in maintenance of buildings, grounds, utility systems, roads and parking facilities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under direct supervision, maintain institution's physical plant and grounds.

TYPICAL WORK

Work with hand tools to dig ditches, trenches, and other excavations and remove debris;

Assist in building and repairing walkways, streets, parking areas, and other paved surfaces;

Assist in preparation for new construction, facilities alterations, and maintenance projects; clean up when project is completed;

Paint guardrails and signposts; dig and backfill ditches; assist in the installation, cleaning, and repair of sewer mains, catch basins, and storm sewers;

Clean tunnel passages, sumps and utility access holes;

Install and repair fences, signs, and rockeries;

Operate power tools and equipment, such as pneumatic tamper, jackhammer, portable pumps, lawn mowers, and paint spraying equipment;

Operate motorized equipment, such as trucks, tractors, forklifts, street cleaning equipment and turf renovation equipment;

Load and unload trucks and move furniture, equipment, supplies and materials; assemble new furniture;

May assist heavy equipment operators in activities such as removing material from job site or digging ditches to place pipe;

May perform routine equipment maintenance; may clean and service air filtration systems;

May perform routine custodial related tasks;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

Physical ability to do required work AND six months of work experience which includes operation of power equipment such as tampers, jackhammers, trucks, and wheel tractors OR equivalent education/experience.
