CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Perform fiscally-related tasks using a manual and/or computerized system which involve receiving, distributing, transferring, and accounting for funds such as distribution of monies owed or advanced; receipt of payments by cash, checks or credit cards; and maintenance of internal and external cash flow records.
BASIC FUNCTION
Receive and disburse funds; record monetary transactions; issue receipts, balance records, transfer funds; prepare cash receipts and dispositions reports.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
First-level class of series. Under direct supervision use established procedures, perform routine cashiering work involving the receipt of funds and the recording of transactions.
TYPICAL WORK
Receive cash, checks, and/or credit cards in payment of registration fees, tuition, housing fees, loans, laboratory fees, books, tickets or other institutional cash receipts requirements;
Issue computerized or manual receipts for payments received by cash, checks or credit card;
Maintain records of funds received, distributed, and transferred;
Maintain and/or enforce security procedures to ensure safety of funds;
Balance records at the end of the work day;
Prepare reports of cash receipts and dispositions reports;
Operate calculator, adding machine, cash register, computer terminal and typewriter;
Assist customers by answering inquiries and providing information as necessary;
May complete deposit slips, total cash and prepare cash bank deposits, and make bank deposits;
May perform clerical duties such as preparing mail, answering telephones, filing, and typing reports;
May operate coin counter, coin wrapper, or bill counter;
May compute fees and input data to cash-related computer systems;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
High school graduation or equivalent AND six months of fiscally-related experience such as bank teller or retail salesclerk
OR
equivalent education/experience.
