CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Facilitate telephone communications operations in an institution setting.
BASIC FUNCTION
Receive and route incoming calls on an institution telephone switching system.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Single class - no series.
TYPICAL WORK
Receive and route incoming telephone calls to appropriate departments or personnel, place local and long distance calls; transfer calls; record and relay messages;
Maintain log of calls as required by institution policy and procedures;
Operate TTY/TDY system and facsimile process transfer equipment;
Respond to telephone and in-person requests for information;
Maintain institution locator files; locate personnel when necessary;
Carry out institution emergency telephone procedures when necessary;
Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing and receiving and routing visitors in conjunction with telephone duties;
May show substitute operator how to operate equipment;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
High School Diploma, or GED Certificate; AND six months of relevant work experience. Six months of additional qualifying experience may substitute for required education.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
