DEFINITION

Perform duties involving sprinkler irrigation and maintenance in a comprehensive grounds maintenance program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Incumbents are responsible for specialized grounds maintenance involving electrical and mechanical activated sprinkler systems and equipment.

TYPICAL WORK

Install, maintain, repair and adjust various sprinkler systems and control devices;

Inspect sprinkler systems for leaks and proper operation;

Repair valves, vacuum breakers, time clocks, and broken water lines;

Review and maintain sprinkler system maps;

Order parts, materials, and supplies; maintain inventory records;

Occasionally perform duties of a Gardener II;

May lead other employees and part-time helpers;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

Two years' experience in grounds maintenance which has included electrical and mechanical system repair.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Examination Requirements:

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
