DEFINITION
Supervise the dental technician personnel in a dental laboratory.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are distinguished by responsibility for supervising the general function of the laboratory and maintain a liaison with, and providing assistance in dental auxiliary training programs at community colleges.
TYPICAL WORK
Train, schedule, and direct the work of subordinates; control the quality standards of the laboratory work performed;
Assist in laboratory and clinical instruction of dental students where technical assistance is required;
Direct subordinate technicians participating in activities which aid faculty members and graduate students in their clinical and research projects and with the development of teaching material;
Control the ordering, issuing and maintenance of laboratory supplies including precious metals;
Maintain liaison with community colleges on dental technician training programs;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
High School graduation and four years of experience as a Dental Laboratory Technician, one of which must have been at the Dental Laboratory Technician II level. Training in an accredited dental technician school may be substituted, year-for-year, for up to two years experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements:
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
