BASIC FUNCTION

Perform all technical aspects of non-invasive diagnostic procedures provided by an ECG laboratory and operate and understand all ECG laboratory equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Operate complex cardiac diagnostic equipment such as ambulatory recorders, stress testing equipment, polarcardiograph, vector-cardiograph, and cardiocheck pacemaker. Train nursing and medical staff in the routine use of electrocardiographic equipment.

TYPICAL WORK

Operate ECG machines such as single channel and 3-channel electrocardiogram, polarcardiograms, vectorcardiograms, and cardio-page writer; review recordings and adjust machine to obtain technically good tracing;

Conduct special procedures involving dynamic electrocardiography, such as ambulatory recording and treadmill exercise testing; perform and/or assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation;

Organize recordings for daily evaluation by medical students and attending staff cardiologists; search for and provide prior recordings for comparison;

Review patient's clinical record to obtain and record identifying information required for ECG records;

Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions;report repair needs to laboratory leadership;

Train student technologists, medical assistants, and other staff in the operation of electrocardiographic equipment; assist in research projects involving ECG laboratory;

Perform the work of Electrocardiograph Technician I;

May assist in intravenous setups and preparation of sterile trays;

May assist physicians in the heart catheterization laboratory;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience as an ECG Technician I AND certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation AND certified by the National Alliance of Cardiovascular Technologists OR certified within one year from date of hire.
