BASIC FUNCTION
Perform complex duties such as release of information, legal requirements, or system management in a health information management service independent of the lead or supervisor.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general direction, perform complex duties, requiring specific knowledge of legal requirements regarding release of information or Master Patient Index or setting and removal of alerts or performing system management functions.
TYPICAL WORK
Review clinical indicators in patient records to determine releasable information;
Interact with law enforcement officials and attorneys regarding release of patient information;
Distribute and reconcile patient numbers;
Link patient numbers in the Master Patient Index;
Communicate changes in the Master Patient Index to others with unconnected systems;
Respond to requests for security charts;
Set and remove alerts in the patient registration system that link referring physicians to specific patient records;
Coordinate research requests from outside agencies, third party payors, and internal departments to access patient records; prepare and send the requested information in an appropriate and complete format;
Set up work stations and manage printer functioning;
Respond to and troubleshoot system performance problems; interface with appropriate vendors;
Train internal and external clients on the functioning of patient data services systems;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
Completion of a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) program AND eligible for registration as an RHIT AND one year of experience in health information management
OR
equivalent education/experience.
