CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Coordinate the daily patient flow and provide patient support services in an admitting, registration or patient care area in a medical center.

BASIC FUNCTION

Independently provide support services such as processing incoming referrals, scheduling patient appointments, obtaining and verifying demographic and financial information through pre-registration process, completing patient registration by obtaining consent for medical care and financial agreement, and processing patient paperwork and coordinating care with other services, and triaging patient telephone calls to clinical staff and providing information about services.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, perform specialized clerical and technical duties to facilitate the delivery of patient care. Function as the expert for assigned service area, identifying process improvements and recommending solutions. Using extensive, in-depth knowledge of services provided in area, recommend process improvements to patient services support work design and flow. May provide guidance to staff outside assigned service area. May float between areas including admitting, registration and patient care areas.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform the work of the Patient Services Specialist 2, functioning as an expert in both patient service area and registration; perform the work of registration and scheduling or unit coordination;

Act as a resource to other staff in patient support services and registration provided in assigned service area;

May assist with orienting and/or training new staff in assigned service area;

Work with appropriate staff and management to identify issues with processes and make recommendations for improvements;

May float between service areas to facilitate the delivery of services provided;

May Assists in the preparation and maintenance of provider and clinic schedules;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

High School graduation or equivalent AND two years Patient Services Specialist 2 experience OR equivalent education/experience.
