BASIC FUNCTION
Perform journey-level work in the ordering, receiving, sales, inventory, cash control, and/or customer service functions for a retail and/or service operation.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, perform retail financial record keeping and cash control duties in a retail and/or service operation.
TYPICAL WORK
Order bookstore supplies such as text books, binders, writing instruments, art and engineering supplies, and stationery items;
Balance cash register receipts and prepare daily financial reports; post monthly cash journals; prepare bank deposits; process and handle charge sales;
Receive, check, price, and stock retail goods and supplies;
Maintain stock inventory and bookstore records; make physical inventories of merchandise; advise supervisor as to changes in inventory levels and types of new retail merchandise;
Assist retail store customers and sell a wide variety of merchandise; serve as cashier;
Coordinate text book returns to publishers and suppliers; buy back books from students, re-price, and shelve;
Perform the duties of a Retail Clerk I;
May direct the work of bookstore personnel;
May serve as an assistant to a Bookstore Manager or service facility manager;
May make bank deposits;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
High school diploma or GED certificate, AND one year of experience in retail selling, cash register operation, general clerical work and/or financial record keeping. Six months of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
