BASIC FUNCTION
Perform a variety of paraprofessional duties in support of one or more functional areas of an institution's human resource operation. Interpret and apply established human resource guidelines, rules, policies and procedures related to classified, exempt and/or academic staff.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, independently perform a variety of paraprofessional human resource duties in one or more functional areas. Apply specialized knowledge and use independent judgement in resolving problems and interpreting and applying established rules, policies, regulations or procedures. Review the accuracy of records, exercise decision making authority and initiate corrective action within established guidelines.
TYPICAL WORK
Interpret, explain and apply institutional and other human resource rules, policies, regulations or procedures;
Respond to inquiries and resolve problems in areas such as employment examinations, benefits eligibility or calculations, leave administration, compensation and employee relations;
Participate in employment/recruitment activities such as conducting screening interviews, administering and scoring employment examinations, notifying applicants of examination results, certifying candidates for vacancies, representing the institution in job fairs and other outreach activities;
Review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of human resource documents such as leave and salary records, benefits enrollment or claim forms and employee data forms;
Prepare responses to unemployment, workers' compensation and/or group insurance claims;
Analyze and summarize data and prepare reports using computerized and/or manual systems; coordinate the maintenance of computerized human resource information or other recordkeeping systems; verify accuracy of records and document adjustments; maintain confidential records;
Conduct training and/or orientation in human resource rules and institution policies and procedures;
Develop and implement internal office procedures; recommend changes in procedures or rules to facilitate effectiveness;
Represent the unit on intra- or inter-institutional human resource committees;
May direct and review the work of assigned support staff;
Perform the duties of Human Resource Assistant;
Perform related duties as required.

Four years of office experience including two years of increasingly responsible experience in a human resource or related setting
equivalent education/experience.
