DEFINITION

Direct the operation of a media services distribution center dispatching equipment and/or operators and materials.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are responsible for the operation of all activities for a small unit, or one or more specific activities of a larger unit. May direct the work of other media operators (full-time and/or part-time).

TYPICAL WORK

Serve as a dispatcher; confer with users; ascertain individual and/or program requirements, translate requests into instructions and assignments and assure that these requirements are met;

Order supplies incidental to operator duties;

operate public address systems in pavilions and stadiums as required;

Direct public address systems in pavilions and stadiums as required;

Direct media operators in the set up and operation of film and slide projectors, record players, tape recorders, video-tape playbacks, public address systems and other media equipment;

Train others in the performance of simple maintenance to assigned equipment;

Provide initial training and supplementary refresher instructions to students, staff, and faculty; perform backup to maintenance for media maintenance technicians; review and evaluate performance of operators;

May maintain unit or department records, security and inventory control of media equipment for circulation and pools;

May be responsible for the implementation and operation of a transportation service which includes pickup and delivery of film and equipment on and off campus;

May be expected to examine new audio-visual equipment to evaluate their technical specifications; prepare materials for circulation;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

High school graduate or equivalent and three years of full-time experience as a Media Services Operator, or equivalent;

OR

two years of college course work in education, radio, TV, or related field; and one year of full-time related work experience;

OR

three years of related work experience and training.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
