MEDIA TECHNICIAN LEAD

Lead others and produce audio-visual instructional materials for classroom instruction, institutional promotion, staff development and/or special events; set up, operate, and maintain media equipment and systems such as film and slide projectors, overhead projectors, VCRs and monitors, multi-media systems, audio and video recording and playback systems, interactive computers, LCD displays, and Laser disc units.
Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others.
Under general supervision, coordinate the activities of media services such as equipment scheduling and distribution, technical services and production and presentation of audio-visual materials; perform technical support in the set up and operation of media equipment and systems and the production of audio-visual, video and media materials such as slides, B/W and/or color photographs, overhead transparencies, films, recordings, charts and posters.
Establish and/or maintain manual and/or computerized scheduling, delivery and retrieval systems for media equipment, media materials, and rental materials;
Coordinate staff to deliver, set up, operate, and retrieve media equipment and systems;
Coordinate set up and operation of manual and/or computerized media production equipment such as video, audio, photographic, and graphic equipment in the production of instructional materials including graphic aids, transparencies, audio and video recordings, films, slides and filmstrips;
Confer with and advise clients, recommend purchase of and coordinate orders for instructional material and audio visual equipment;
Establish schedules for cleaning and maintaining audio-visual equipment; perform maintenance tests, replace lamps, make and repair cables, switches and other interconnecting or auxiliary equipment;
Coordinate the set up of multi-media audio and video recording equipment such as microphones, mixers, video cameras, VCRs, monitors, and stage gear; perform construction and rigging jobs necessary to such set ups; record narrative, music and sound effects for sound tracks for slide/tape and video programs; record class lectures, special events or programs;
Direct others and set up, operate, and perform routine maintenance on various audio-visual and video equipment such as video projectors, LCD displays, Laser discs, amplifiers, speaker systems, still and motion picture projectors, video and audio tape recorders, video cameras and monitors, and lighting equipment;
Confer with, provide technical advise to and assist faculty, staff and students in effective use and operation of media equipment for instructional purposes; make recommendations regarding equipment capabilities and better utilization of media materials and equipment;
Maintain stock and computerized and/or manual inventory records on materials, equipment, and parts; order supplies incidental to materials production and/or equipment support and installation;
May assist with monitoring and developing media center budgets and accounts;
May provide technical support for satellite television system and equipment for teleconferences, telecourses and other off-air transmissions and recordings;
May oversee the operation of public address systems in large venues, pavilions or stadiums;
Perform the duties of Media Technician - Senior;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
High school graduation AND one year of experience as a Media Technician-Senior including six months of coordinating a media services operation
