MEDIA TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR

BASIC FUNCTION

Supervise staff and oversee the operation, maintenance and scheduling of media equipment, materials and facilities; coordinate the production of media materials for instruction, institution promotion, staff development, and/or special events.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.

Coordinate a variety of activities in media services such as graphics, photography, audio visual and video equipment operations, and multi-media computerized systems operations.

TYPICAL WORK

Establish scheduling procedures and oversee manual and/or computerized scheduling, delivery, and retrieval systems for media equipment and materials and rental materials;

Provide technical advice and assistance to students, faculty, outside clients, and staff in the proper use and operation of audio-visual equipment, photography techniques, multi-media presentations, and visual aids;

Establish and monitor unit policy and procedures regarding copyright law and "Fair Use" guidelines as they apply to duplication, production and presentation of media materials;

Coordinate and perform the set up and operation of equipment used in closed circuit video production, computer/video systems, and/or 2-way live video/satellite conferencing including cameras, recording devices, sound and lighting equipment;

Review manufacturers specifications, evaluate all types of media equipment and materials, consult with clients and recommend the purchase and installation of media equipment and materials;

Oversee the maintenance of computerized and/or manual inventories of equipment, furniture and supplies; requisition materials from local sources; produce statistical reports of equipment and media usage;

Assist in the development, monitoring and maintenance of the media operations budget;

May direct preventative maintenance of media equipment and systems;

May oversee operations and scheduling of off-air and satellite tapings of teleconferences and telecourses;

May produce and instruct others in the manual and/or computerized production of transparencies, projection slides, charts, graphs, diagrams and posters; develop black and white and color film;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union

High school graduation AND one year of experience as a Media Technician Senior

OR

equivalent education/experience.
