DEFINITION
Supervise media production and technical services in the support of teaching and research programs.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class have responsibility for supervision of specialized media services in behavioral and bio-medical science areas.
TYPICAL WORK
Direct and supervise the overall media services operation and support staff providing a broad range of photography, graphic arts, motion picture, audio-visual and close circuit television services;
Supervise the "Instructional Design" of instructional and curriculum material;
Establish administrative operating procedures, production methods, production schedules and methods for projecting and evaluating production costs;
Write grant and/or contract proposals for the design and production of instructional materials;
Consult with faculty engaged in research and training to develop and provide media services required by their projects;
Determine equipment needs, develop and evaluate new and improved media systems, and write and evaluate equipment specifications and bids;
Consult with instrumentation development laboratory on the development of instructional technology;
Maintain liaison with other campus media and/or instructional technology service facilities engaged in similar activities;
Prepare budget recommendations and review and approve operating expenditures;
Interview, select, and evaluate the performance of support staff;
Provide consulting services of use of media and media equipment to other campus departments, outside agencies and institutions;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
A Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired; AND five years of media production and instructional technology experience, including some classroom teaching experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
