CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Procure supplies, services, materials and equipment, issue bids and award contracts within dollar limitations assigned by institution Purchasing Authority in support of institution-wide purchasing activities for designated buying areas; assign work to subordinate employees.
BASIC FUNCTION
Select vendors, validate price and award contracts for supplies, services, materials, and/or equipment for assigned commodity areas in accordance with state purchasing laws and regulations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
First level class of series. Under general supervision, conduct commodity purchasing for standardized supplies and materials, including issuance of sealed bids and award contracts within established dollar limitations and defined guidelines.
TYPICAL WORK
Procure supplies, equipment, and services as required to meet departmental or institutional needs;
Review and prioritize requests in accordance with approved guidelines;
Prepare bids for standardized commodities and products, establish vendor lists to obtain bids, conduct bid openings;
Evaluate bids, recommend awards or award bids;
Make priority application and assignment of preference rating to requests for purchases, contracts, and agreements;
Secure telephone price quotations, document information, commit purchases to vendors; place orders for merchandise or services;
Initiate change orders and supplemental agreements for goods and services;
Research for new sources of supply; locate and contact vendors and suppliers; provide information on purchasing procedures;
Communicate with assigned departmental clientele and vendors regarding purchase requests;
Monitor vendor performance as defined by contract provisions;
May use on-line data processing equipment to perform duties;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
One year of work experience in buying or purchasing AND an Associate of Arts Degree in Purchasing Management or two years of work experience in buying or purchasing AND two years of college; OR an equivalent combination of work experience in buying and purchasing and college level training.
