Payroll Title Analyst
Typical Responsibilities

Applies independent judgement to perform professional level analysis of data sets, budget information or business processes relating to management functions or business operations. May identify or recommend action and/or options based on the results of the analysis performed. Examples of responsibilities: - Policy, regulatory, or financial research needed to support decisions or recommendations, - Statistical and data analysis including development of conclusions and recommendations, - Organizational performance metrics, - Unit budget and finance management and analysis, - Trend modeling, - Special project management, - Research and grant administration, and - Policy development and analysis.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervision of staff is not required, but is commonly found at higher grades in the series. Supervisors have the authority to hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable.

Overtime Eligibility

FLSA overtime status is based on the position's duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position's gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption

Principal Assistants to Executive Heads: Individuals serving as principal assistants to executive heads of a major administrative or academic division and who have major administrative or program responsibility within the division/department and report directly to the executive head. The employee regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion in work directly related to management policies or department business operations and has delegated authority to make commitments that affect department operations.

Alternative Payroll Titles

If the position does not report to an �Executive Head,� consider professional staff payroll titles under other professional staff exemptions. If the position is responsible for a program, a payroll title in the Program Direction/Control exemption may be appropriate.If the position is doing analysis for publication as part of a research project or works for a Principal Investigator and requires a scientific degree to perform the work of the position, consider payroll titles under Research Consultant series. If the position performs fiscal or budget analysis, does not report to an executive head and does not have direction and control over a program, consider classified titles such as Budget/Fiscal Analyst, Fiscal Specialist, or Program Coordinator.

Descriptors do not and are not intended to represent all possible positions in the payroll title series.
