DEFINITION
Coordinate daily patient flow in assigned clinic and the auditing and verification of patient database.
TYPICAL WORK
Accountable for patient charge procedure to include batching and verification;
Initiate charge documents;
Initiate re-registrations, assessment of personal data; prepare changes as required;
Provide general information to patients regarding billing problems or filing for third-party reimbursement; prepare a variety of patient care related forms to include pre-authorization documents, follow-up as necessary;
Verify registration data per hospital policies;
Review financial forms with patient;
Check patients into clinic according to established protocol;
Responsible for maintenance of the medical record;
Communicate hospital policy to staff, students, patients, visitors and the public;
Assist with the preparation of clinical and administrative records and reports;
Participate in the orientation of staff, students, faculty and volunteers to the indirect patient care aspects of the unit operation; may orient others to clinic operation;
Make initial and follow-up patient appointments;
Assist in the cancellation of clinics, updating appointment scheduling books; maintain and update policy and procedure manuals;
May direct the work of volunteers;
May operate computer terminal to obtain and update patient information;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
High School Diploma or GED Certificate; AND six months clerical, receptionist, secretarial or related experience in a patient care setting. Six months of additional work experience may substitute for High School Diploma. Twelve months additional applicable education and/or training may substitute for the experience requirement.
