Typical Responsibilities

Provides professional and/or managerial level human resources support to a college, school, or large department. Counsels administrators, faculty, managers, and employees on performance management, including job performance counseling and other employee relations issues. Additionally, performs other activities in the areas of employment, compensation, regulatory compliance (FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADA), and training and development. May have delegated signature authority for certain human resources actions.Positions using this payroll title series generally focus on staff human resources functions. However, this payroll title may also be used for positions that perform similar responsibilities for academic positions when the duties require a level of discretion and independent judgement consistent with the FLSA overtime exemption.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervision of staff is not required, but is commonly found at higher grades in the series. Supervisors have the authority to hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable.

Overtime Eligibility

FLSA overtime status is based on the position's duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position's gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption

Personnel: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for exercising discretion and independent judgment in effecting, executing, and discharging personnel functions, such as employment, classification, compensation, benefits, affirmative action/equal employment opportunity, labor relations, employee relations, and training and development.

Alternative Payroll Titles

When professional level human resources responsibilities are not a position's main function, alternative payroll titles may be found in other payroll title series including Administrator, Administrative Specialist, Assistant to Chair, Manager, Manager of Program Operations.If the primary focus of the position is performing clerical duties such as filling out time sheets, leave forms, OWLS maintenance, payroll, mailing of confirmation/rejection letters to applicants, etc., it may be more appropriately classified as a Human Resources Coordinator in the classified staff program.

For use outside Central HR (i.e., not reporting up to the VP for Human Resources)
