Together We Will Awards

Nominations for the UW Staff Together We Will Awards open Oct. 11, 2021. They were created to celebrate outstanding staff contributions made during recent extraordinary challenges and serve as a temporary replacement for the Distinguished Staff Award program, which will be back in Oct. 2022. Please help recognize your amazing colleagues by nominating them for this prestigious honor.

  • Essential staff and front-line workers who kept our patients as well as students living in campus housing safe.
  • Staff who made the quick pivot to online learning and remote work possible.
  • Staff in research and patient care roles who are rightfully called our healthcare heroes.
  • Staff participating in anti-racism efforts to ensure the UW’s programs are inclusive and equitable.
  • Staff participating in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at the UW, including anti-racism efforts.
  • Staff who have gone above and beyond in ways big and small to support their colleagues and our greater community.

Nominations will be open Oct. 11 – Dec. 31, 2021

Nominees will be celebrated online and will receive a copy of their nomination materials. All nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee that will award up to 20 $1,500 awards.

Who can be nominated?

While anyone from the UW community can submit a nomination, only staff who have been at the UW for at least six months in a half- to full-time position are qualified for this award, which is being funded by repurposing the funding associated with the Distinguished Staff Award program. UW Neighborhood Clinic staff who transition to UW employment as of Jan 1. 2021 are also eligible as long as they have been employed at least six months in a half- to full-time position. Team and self-nominations are not accepted.

TIP: If you are nominating a staff member for excellence in leadership or public service, please consider nominating them for the David B. Thorud Leadership Award or the Outstanding Public Service Award instead as these awards historically receive fewer nominations.

Please see our Honors & Awards if you are looking to recognize a UW employee who is in a faculty, academic personnel, post-doctoral scholar, or academic student employee role.

Not sure if the employee you want to nominate is UW staff? Send an email to and we can help you figure it out.

What is the selection committee looking for?

The selection committee will use the following criteria to select the awardees:

  • Nominee is currently employed at the UW in a staff role with at least six months of service in a half- to full-time position.
  • Nominee completed work related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting financial crisis, the pivot to remote work and online learning and programming, and/or anti-racism work supporting Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and other marginalized communities.
  • Nomination includes specific examples of the nominee’s excellence in responding to the events of 2020 and illustrates the impact that staff member has made on the UW community.
