Counseling through UW CareLink

There are many issues, big or small, that you might want help with: stress, relationships or grief, among many others. Perhaps you feel stuck or that life is overly complicated. Or maybe you have a difficult decision to make. UW CareLink provides someone to talk to when life’s challenges arrive.

Work with a guidance consultant to help you sort through your concerns to make your life easier. You receive five free in-person counseling sessions for each issue you work to solve. UW CareLink can match you with counselors who are the right fit for your situation and who have offices near your work or home.

These sessions are confidential and are not recorded on your medical record. You don’t have to fill out insurance forms or make a copay.

What to expect when you call CareLink for counseling

When you call to arrange counseling through CareLink, you can expect your guidance counselor to be patient, attentive, professional and kind. They should actively try to connect you with a counselor or therapist that meets your needs and criteria:

  • You can access this service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You can request a counselor based on your preferences for gender, language(s) spoken, ethnicity or other factors.
  • You can ask your CareLink guidance counselor to call and check the counselor/therapist’s availability for you.
  • You can ask your guidance counselor to schedule your first appointment for you.
  • You can request from your guidance counselor a list of applicable counselors/therapists for you to call on your own if you prefer.
  • You can expect to receive this list within two business days.

If you want to engage in long-term counseling beyond your five free sessions, your guidance counselor can help find a practitioner who takes your health insurance and help arrange additional counseling sessions through your health insurance. Counselors/therapists should accept multiple forms of payment including cash, check and credit/debit card for any copays.

Call Carelink or connect online 24 hours a day, seven days a week to get started.
