Additionally, the University\u00a0has several related policies.<\/p>\n<p>Talk with your <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/contact-us\/leave-specialists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HR leave and accommodation specialist<\/a> if you have questions about any of these laws or policies.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Laws<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/whd\/fmla\">Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong>This federal law offers you a limited amount of unpaid, job-protected leave for certain family and medical reasons.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/paidleave.wa.gov\/\"><strong>Washington Paid Family &amp; Medical Leave (PFML)<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis state law is available when employees need time off to care for themselves or a family member. There are three main types of paid leave: medical leave, family leave, and military family leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lni.wa.gov\/workers-rights\/leave\/family-care-act\">Washington Family Care Act (FCA)<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong>This state law allows employees to use their paid leave to take time off from work to care for a family member with a serious health condition or to care for the employee\u2019s child who requires medical treatment or supervision.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lni.wa.gov\/workers-rights\/leave\/leave-for-military-spouses-and-certain-emergency-personnel\"><strong>Washington Military Family Leave Act (MFLA)<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nIf you are a spouse or registered domestic partner of a military service member, you may take up to 15 days of leave prior to deployment or when your spouse is on leave during a deployment. Leave under this state law is unpaid unless you use accrued paid leave.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for MFLA leave, you need to work at least 20 hours per week on average. MFLA and FMLA may run at the same time.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>University policies<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/policies\/disability-leave\/\">Disability Leave Policy<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>This policy allows a limited amount of unpaid leave for reasons related to an employee\u2019s own medical condition that prevents the employee from performing their essential job functions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/policy.uw.edu\/uw-policy-directory\/aps\/section-40-personnel\/aps-45-4-leave-related-to-active-military-duty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leave Related to Active Military Duty<\/a> (UW APS 45.4)<br \/>\n<\/strong>The policy on military duty includes provisions related to military family leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/policy.uw.edu\/uw-policy-directory\/aps\/section-40-personnel\/aps-45-5-family-and-medical-leave-act-fmla-coverage-for-university-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Coverage for University Employees<\/a> (UW APS 45.5)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This policy describes how the University complies with the federal Family and Medical Leave Act.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/policy.uw.edu\/uw-policy-directory\/aps\/section-40-personnel\/aps-45-6-state-of-washington-paid-family-and-medical-leave-program\/\">State of Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave Program<\/a><\/strong> <strong>(UW APS 45.6)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This policy describes how the University complies with and implements the state Paid Family and Medical Leave program.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/policy.uw.edu\/uw-policy-directory\/aps\/section-40-personnel\/aps-46-5-reasonable-accommodation-of-employees-with-disabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Policy on Reasonable Accommodation of Employees with Disabilities<\/a> (UW APS 46.5)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This policy describes the process for requesting reasonable accommodation for a disability.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A list of federal and state laws and UW policies related to family and medical leave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":49,"featured_media":0,"parent":67,"menu_order":80,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-89","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
