Leave beyond what is authorized by a healthcare provider is considered leave without pay.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eligibility\"><\/span>Eligibility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Faculty Code Section 51-1 provides faculty salary &#8220;shall be continued&#8221; in the case of illness or disability.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Faculty receiving a salary through the UW and on a 9-month service period:<\/strong> Eligible for paid sick leave September 16 through June 15. If scheduled to receive a summer salary, eligibility continues June 16 through September 15<\/li>\n<li><strong>Faculty receiving a salary through the UW and on a 12-month service period:<\/strong> Eligible year-round while in active paid status (July 1 through June 30)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Funding\"><\/span>Funding<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Paid sick leave is a continuation of the faculty member\u2019s regular salary, from the same funding sources, while on leave. For faculty who are paid by grants\/contracts (for example, research faculty or WOT), when faculty paid sick leave cannot be charged to the faculty member\u2019s regular grant funding sources, the department, school, college, or campus, may, but is not required to, make up all or part of the funding.<\/p>\n<h3>Paid sick leave covers<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Your own illness or disability.<\/li>\n<li>Maternity-related disability (temporary disability due to pregnancy, childbirth, or recovery therefrom).<\/li>\n<li>Care of a family member with a serious health condition as defined by the Family Care Act<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Parental leave and\/or time off for bonding are not eligible for pay under the faculty paid sick leave policy. For parental, adoption, and foster care leave details, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/time-absence\/time-absence\/academic-personnel-leaves\/time-off-and-leaves\/#faculty\">Leave without Pay page<\/a> and, after July 1, 2026, the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/time-absence\/time-absence\/faculty-leaves\/faculty-paid-parental-leave-policy\/\">Faculty Paid Parental Leave webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Paid-Sick-Leave-as-a-Supplemental-Benefit\"><\/span>Paid Sick Leave as a Supplemental Benefit<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Faculty paid sick leave may be used as a supplemental benefit in conjunction with the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/time-absence\/time-absence\/fmla-and-pfml\/paid-family-and-medical-leave\/\">Washington Paid Family Medical Leave program (PFML)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Paid-Sick-Leave-Request-Process\"><\/span>Paid Sick Leave Request Process<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You may request paid sick leave by submitting the appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/time-absence\/time-absence\/fmla-and-pfml\/family-and-medical-leave-act-fmla\/requesting-fmla-leave\/\">FMLA form.<\/a> Please refer to the form for instructions on completing and submitting documentation.
