Release time for required COVID-19 testing

Governor Inslee’s proclamation 21-14.2, requires all employees of Washington higher education institutions to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment unless a documented medical or religious exemption is approved. Routine COVID-19 testing is required for employees who have a University-approved religious or medical exemption to the COVID-19 vaccination requirement.

Staff and student employees will be granted reasonable paid release time for required COVID-19 testing. Time spent by employees to get a COVID-19 test is considered time worked, including the amount of time to travel and complete a test. Overtime compensation for testing is not permitted unless it is approved in advance by an employee’s manager; if approved, it is reported as time worked.

Employees should follow their department’s procedures for requesting release time and provide as much notice as possible. Employees should work with their managers to ensure that time away from work does not impede critical operations. Employees may be asked to provide proof of appointment when making the request and/or proof of test completion following the appointment.
